Michael Lawry
Michael started painting in 2018 in search of a post retirement creative interest to replace 40 years of corporate and resources tax. He paints land and seascapes, in oils, on stretched canvases of various shapes and sizes.
He is surprised by the impact that exposure to painting principles has on the way he sees the landscape and is constantly inspired to capture the landscape of his surroundings, principally around Port Elliot, Goolwa and the Fleurieu Peninsula. He now even stops the car, to take photos.
Making plenty of time to paint, and with the encouragement of friends and exhibiting, he has developed a lightly impressionistic style focussed on composition and palette but without message or meaning.
Artists that have influenced him are John Lacey, Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts.
